Korba city, located at 22*20' North latitude and 82*42' East longitude, with a height of 304.8 meter, above sea level, is the administrative headquarters of Korba District. Korba primarily is an industrial town, situated at the confluence of the rivers Hasdeo and Ahiran in Chhattisgarh . The original inhabitants of this place are the Korwa scheduled tribe , though with time, people from across the globe have migrated to Korba, for food and shelter.

Korba owning to its geographical location enjoys varied climates and weathers . The climate of the area is dry to moist tropical with defined summer from April to June, rainy season from July to September, and winter from November to February. The temperature rises to a maximum of about 48° C in May and drops to a minimum of about 7° C in December. The average rainfall is 1265 mm. The wind direction is generally westerly to south westerly, with wind velocity ranging from 0.57 to 9.30 kmph. The relative humidity ranges from 70% to 94% during monsoon and 17% to 78% during summer.

From a quite and calm village in the middle of dense forests in the late 1950s, the town had transformed to become a power hub of chhattisgarh and is trading its way up the industrial ladder in terms of both small and large scale industries. Korba has different power generating units providing surplus of power and prides of having Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB) , one of the few profit making State Electricity Boards in the country.

Korba is rich in mineral deposits and coal attracting Government and Multi National Companies to explore its vast range of deposits across different regions. With still large area to be explored, it promises further cheap power generation and mineral excavation opportunities. The place is also rich in forest wealth and wild animals .

Inter district and inter state buses are available to major places such as Bilaspur, Janjgir-Champa, Koriya, Raigarh, Sarguja, Puri, Pune and Mumbai .

The nearest airport though is at Raipur , which is about 200 km , from Korba.
